Timiskaming Hospice Palliative Care Program
Volunteer with Us
Volunteers play an essential role in supporting individuals living with serious or life-limiting illness, as well as their families and loved ones.
Through our Client Visiting Program, volunteers offer presence, compassion, and emotional support while also gaining meaningful life experience.
All volunteers are screened and supported through training.
HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Our on-boarding process is simple and supportive. Here’s what to expect:
Apply: Complete the volunteer application form to get started.
Connect: We’ll reach out to learn more about you, answer questions, and discuss your interests.
Screening: Complete a brief interview and required documentation, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Training: Take part in our 30-hour Hospice Palliative Care training program (provided at no cost).
Placement: We’ll match you to a role based on your comfort level, availability, and preferences.
Ongoing Support: You’ll receive continued guidance, check-ins, and access to resources throughout your volunteering.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING
All of our volunteers who work directly with clients complete a minimum 30-hour training program based on Hospice Palliative Care Ontario’s (HPCO’s) curriculum.
Training is delivered in partnership with Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) and Northern College, using a combination of online learning and supported instruction. Training is provided at no cost to volunteers.
A police background check is required before volunteers are matched with clients. Ongoing education and mentorship are provided.
